Historical official postal document from the Deutsche Bundespost dating back to 1957 from the postal savings service sector.

The envelope is explicitly marked with:

“Value: 500 DM”

“Not sealed!”

“Postal savings book”

This makes it a particularly interesting type of shipment in connection with the postal savings system of that time. On the top left is the striking orange-colored “V Mannheim 1 – 473” value label, as it was used to identify insured shipments. In addition, the envelope bears an official violet service stamp from the Mannheim post office as well as the pre-printed note:

“Postal matter – Postal savings service”

Also particularly attractive is the cleanly struck Mannheim special/promotional postmark from March 7, 1957, with a city motif relating to the Mannheim city anniversary. The letter was addressed to Marie Müller in Mannheim. The reverse bears a handwritten note that apparently documents the receipt or an unexecuted redemption.

The envelope is in a clearly used, authentic commercial condition. There are creases, fold marks, minor edge damage, tears, and age-related signs of wear. However, the essential postal features – in particular the value label, declared value, service stamp, and special postmark – are well-preserved and clearly visible.
