Panzer Wedge in the East (Signed, rare)

Major General Hermann Albert Breith (Knight's Cross recipient)

Lucke, Fritz

Language: German

Publisher: Die Wehrmacht, 1941

This work is a memorial and commemorative book for members of the 3rd Panzer Division (the so-called Berlin-Brandenburg Panzer Division) from the Second World War. It is signed by the then Major General and division commander Hermann Albert Breith, with a note of thanks to the fallen soldiers. Compiled by Fritz Lucke, it contains reports from war correspondents, numerous photographic plates, and a fold-out map. It was not intended for the general book trade, but served as an internal memento for the participating units.

Hermann Albert Breith (1892–1964) was a German career officer and General of Panzer Troops during the Second World War. From October 1941, he led the 3rd Panzer Division—also known as the "Berlin-Brandenburg Panzer Division" (whose home base was in Military District III/Berlin)—on the Eastern Front. Under his command, the division was deployed in the heavy fighting in the Soviet Union and in the 1942 German advance toward the Caucasus, among other operations. Later, Breith commanded the III Panzer Corps. He was highly decorated and was awarded, among other honors, the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and Swords.
