Origin: Augsburg, Kingdom of Bavaria
Destination: Aue in the Ore Mountains, Kingdom of Saxony
Date: 1906
Franking: Bavaria, 10 Pfennig, red
Business letter from 1906 with a decorative, pre-printed company letterhead from the Karl Simon bookbindery and gold-stamping workshop in Augsburg. Particularly noteworthy is the elaborately designed header featuring two circular company/ornamental emblems. The letter provides an interesting insight into the craft of bookbinding and gilding at the beginning of the 20th century. The front bears a red 10-pfennig definitive stamp of the Kingdom of Bavaria, which was cancelled with an Augsburg postmark. The letter was sent from Augsburg to Aue in the Ore Mountains. On the back, there is a clearly legible AUE (SACHSEN) arrival stamp with the year 1906. The document thus dates from the period of the German Empire, when Bavaria still used its own postage stamps within the German postal system.
Condition:
The letter is in its original used condition, commensurate with its age. Visible are browning of the paper, creasing and folding marks, minor edge damage as well as tears and missing pieces, particularly along the left and bottom edges.
The historical company advertisement, the franking, and the arrival stamp on the back are preserved. The condition can be seen in the images.
