• So that a wholesome remedy against the poison might be present sooner than the poison itself would cause harm; Luther's poisonous reign did not arise so swiftly and suddenly to counteract divine providence, that three years earlier, for the comfort of the Church, Cajetan of Thiene would not have come into the world. He descended from heaven, like a Christian Hercules and magnanimous hero, armed with such great graces, to eradicate the hellish monstrosity of unbelief. Even the apostate heretic himself bears witness to his virtue and divine premonition, for he understood that a new hero, brave with unconquerable faith and virtue, was emerging in Rome, who would not only manfully take up arms against the fire of truth conceived by the government, but would also draw more such valiant spirits to himself for the acceleration of his most important undertaking.
