A very beautiful and early German children’s picture book, “König ist unser Kind!”, with color illustrations by Gertrud Caspari and verses by Adolf Holst. Gertrud Caspari is considered one of the most significant German children’s book illustrators of the early 20th century. Her characteristic, clearly outlined, and colorful children's images shaped an entire generation of German picture books.

The numerous illustrations depict typical scenes from a child’s world: toys, dolls, animals, swings, fairground and play scenes, as well as the titular little "King." Beneath the images are verses in traditional German script.

Condition:

Clearly used, authentic condition consistent with age. The front cover shows heavy rubbing, scratches, and loss of color. The edges and corners are also bumped or rubbed. The linen spine is intact. The interior color plates appear much better preserved and still retain vivid colors; these also show signs of wear consistent with age, minor staining, and rubbing. The condition details are clearly visible in the photos and are expressly part of the offer.
