Hitler in His Mountains – Heinrich Hoffmann – Historical Illustrated Book – 1935

86 Photographs from the Führer's Surroundings

Author: Heinrich Hoffmann

Language: German

Publisher: „Zeitgeschichte“, Verlag und Vertriebs-Gesellschaft m.b.H., Berlin W 35, 1935

The richly illustrated volume documents Adolf Hitler's stays in the Upper Bavarian mountains, particularly in the Berchtesgaden area and on the Obersalzberg. The photographs offer staged glimpses into Hitler's private and political surroundings, including stays in his mountain retreat, encounters with visitors, and selected everyday situations. The publication was part of the National Socialist self-presentation and was intended to convey a down-to-earth, nature-loving image of Hitler. Today, the work is particularly significant as a contemporary example of National Socialist image propaganda and political staging. A historical original document of National Socialist image publishing, of interest to collectors of contemporary history literature as well as to the academic study of propaganda, photography, and political self-presentation during National Socialism.
