Historical military service letter from the Second World War, sent in May 1940 by the Deputy General Command of the IX Army Corps in Kassel. Of particular interest is the combination of various postal and military features. The letter bears a registered mail label "Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe 1", the conspicuous red notation "Durch Eilboten!" (By Express Messenger!), a contemporary 40-Pfennig stamp, as well as the Kassel daily postmark.

On the front, there is also a military service stamp with the state emblem as well as the note "Frei durch Ablösung Reich!" (Free by state compensation!). The envelope was addressed to a military office in Aschaffenburg. The reverse side shows further postal stamps and documents the actual transit route of the letter.

The envelope is in good condition for its age. Typical signs of folding, slight edge wear and signs of use, as well as age-related paper discoloration are visible – see images.
