Rare collection of a total of 30 (7 of which are double-page and 5 folded) numbered copper plates from Denis Diderot's and Jean d’Alembert's famous Encyclopédie (published from 1751 onwards).
Plate format: approx. 29 × 20.5 cm (plate size sometimes larger). Loosely bound, without cover.
The engravings come from one of the most important works of the Enlightenment and impressively illustrate the various aspects of carpentry. They depict, among other things, construction and building methods in bridge and shipbuilding, as well as technical details on hoists, load-bearing structures, and other artisanal processes.
A well-preserved and clean copy of this rare series of engravings.
