International letter from 1885, mailed in Bavaria and sent to Vienna. The envelope is franked with a red 10-pfennig definitive stamp of the Kingdom of Bavaria and cancelled with a LANGENAU circular postmark. On the front, there is a handwritten destination: Vienna, as well as a note reading "Hotel Matschakerhof". Several handwritten additions and cross-outs point to a postal forwarding or a change of delivery address. On the back, there is an additional Austrian postmark, which documents the actual transit of the letter.
The item is therefore not only philatelically interesting, but also serves as a contemporary document of German-Austrian postal traffic in the late 19th century.
Condition:
Original condition commensurate with age, with:
fold and crease marks, edge and corner damage, minor tears, discolorations, damaged closing flap on the back, contemporary postal notations. The franking is present, the postmark is clearly legible.
