Official Service Letter – Gelbingen Mayor's Office to the Hall Financial Office – Kingdom of Württemberg - 1898

Sender: Schultheiß Office Gelbingen

Recipient: Royal Chamber Office Hall

Territory: Kingdom of Württemberg

Method of dispatch: official government letter

Franking: green 25-pfennig Württemberg stamp

Place of posting: Hall

Special feature: official service stamp of the Schultheiß Office Gelbingen

Historical government and administrative letter from the Kingdom of Württemberg, addressed from the Schultheiß Office Gelbingen to the Royal Chamber Office in Hall. Particularly attractive is the clearly preserved purple official seal:

“SCHULTHEISSENAMT GELBINGEN”

with the Württemberg coat of arms in the center. The Schultheiß office was the local municipal administration of the time and is roughly equivalent to a mayor's office. The recipient, the Chamber Office Hall, was part of the Württemberg financial administration and was responsible for state revenues, taxes, and asset matters, among other things. The letter is franked with a green 25-pfennig Württemberg stamp and cancelled by the post office. The well-preserved official seal of the Schultheiß office is also on the reverse.

The envelope is in a good condition consistent with its age. There are visible fold marks, creases, and slight signs of wear along the edges; however, the franking, address, and official seal are beautifully preserved – see pictures.

An interesting regional and postal history collector's item for collectors of Württemberg, Old Germany, official mail, municipal history, chamber offices, and historical administrative mail.
